Honest To Blog

I was out to dinner with Jesse the other night. And I was feeling pretty good. I had a pretty dress on, I'd given some change to 2 guys at the parking ticket machine so they could get a ticket, we got seated right away, and I was really looking forward to the pulled pork burger I had just ordered. Then I started to overhear the conversation at the next table.

It was a group of 4 girls. After complaining that their fish was too fishy and their gin was too savoury, they started in on another girl. What got my attention is this 'She didn't even look skinny.' That started alarm bells in my head. That made me have to bite my tongue.

I assume they were talking about this girl wearing her wedding dress, because of all dresses you wear in your life, you want your wedding dress to make you look super skinny right? Because you can't possibly get married looking fat, right? Cue more tongue biting and eye rolling. Then, one of the lovely ladies even brought up a picture of the girl in question and started showing it around the table. 'Yeah, she doesn't look skinny at all!' 'Her ankles look fugly' REALLY LADIES? I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE ALL JEALOUS. SHE IS HAPPILY MARRIED AND YOU ARE ALL SITTING ROUND A TABLE COMPLAINING ABOUT FISH.

I didn't see the picture, but I don't need too. I'm sure she looked beautiful. And when I put on a wedding dress (hurry up Jesse) I won't look skinny either. I'll look fat. Because I am fat. And I'll look beautiful, because I am. I am safe in the knowledge that I will look beautiful, and that I don't need to look skinny. These girls must be so woefully insecure about their bodies, so much so they had to project these onto another girl, who wasn't even there.

I joyfully joked with the waiter that I could eat another burger, and that I might, if I was still hungry when I finished my chips, gaining me a few looks from the table in question. Because I am not, and do not, try to be anything other that what I am. Because I am happy with me as a person. I am a good person. I am kind, funny, beautiful, and I'll eat 2 burgers if I want to eat 2 burgers. And I won't even try to look skinny in my wedding dress, and ladies, if you wan to comment about how I don't look skinny, be my guest. I'm a giant reflecty thing, and all your comments reflect off me and back on to you. You'll be the ones left sitting at a table complaining about everything, while I, full and happy, saunter off down the road not even looking skinny in my dress.

Things I Love Thursday

I kind of feel in a rut with this segment. It's been going for almost as long as the blog has. Maybe I need to give it a rest for a little while...anyway, here are some things that I absolutely need in my life!!

Via Mod Cloth

I spent a couple of hours rearranging my office, and actually filing things and chucking things I don't need. Now it's all nice and tidy and ordered, I really think I need this on my desk.

Via City Chic

I am totally in love with this dress. It's on sale at the moment and I am so tempted to buy it. I think it would looks so fantastic over leather look leggings.

Via Kate Hill

I think this bag would go lovely with a pair of shoes that I already own. This is also on sale at the moment, and it's very very tempting.

Alexander McQueen Via Design You Trust

How amazing is this Alexander McQueen clutch?? I think it must be an older style, because I can't find it for sale anywhere, but it's so beautiful.

Anyway, I really can't buy anything buy necessities at the moment, because I know I'd much rather have spending money for London!!

What I Wore - Ladies Who Lunch

Working from home is great, I love it, I'm really productive in all areas, work, house & study. But last week, I was itching to get dressed up and go out. I put the feelers out to my Perth Curvette girls, and we decided to head out to lunch. Luckily for me, my new dress arrived just as I was getting ready, and I knew I had to wear it.

When I first saw this dress, I passed it over. The print isn't something I would normally choose, but something kept drawing me to it every time it popped up. Eventually it came up for sale on a facebook page in my size, so I snapped it up. And boy, am I glad I did!

I felt so super in this dress. I bounced off to meet Katie from Spijkerkat's Closet and Alex from Jet Georgette at Jean Pierre Sancho in the City. It was just what I needed!!

What I Wore - Meet The Parents to Hot Date

I can't believe how fast March has flown by. I had a plan, a plan to do one of these double take challenges once a week in March and get through them all, now I'm staring down the last week in March, and I still have 4 to go. So, I thought I'd better get my butt into gear and take some outfit shots.

It is so super windy in Perth at the moment, I nearly got blown away while taking this shots!!

Sponsor Giveaway! Win A $25 Giftcard!

Morning gang! Today I'm so super excited to introduce you all to Mel from Epic Stitching. Mel has been hanging out on my sidebar all month, and is here to tell you a bit about her and her shop, and giveaway a $25 giftcard to spend at Epic Stitching!

Epic Stitching & Handmade Design was a revival of individual creativity for me, Mel. I had spent 8 years as a Magazine Art Director and created items for business, but they just weren't me. So I decided that I needed to design items that were to my passions and style. Thus came the creation of an Etsy store, Epic Stitching & Handmade Design.

The primary items sold I sell are Kumihimo bracelets and jewelry. Kumihimo is an ancient Samurai technique that was used to create armor. It's strength and durability are unmatched when used in a fiber application for jewelry.  Because I'm severely allergic to metal I was overjoyed to finally discovered a way to make beautiful jewelry that I could wear for more than a couple of hours. Colors, designs and fiber options just exploded in my head and I knew that I couldn't just make bracelets for friends. Within a month I already had more than I knew what to do with! That is when my store really took off; new job that wasn't creative (I work full-time still doing admin work to pay the mortgage) and time in the evenings to explore the shop possibilities.
Now that all my creativity can go into the store and it's products I feel much more fulfilled.
I love making custom orders and working with customers to get what they want with colors and designs. Each person is individual and your accessory style should match that!

All my items are handmade by me, and tested out first by myself, friends or family. Many of my items have been worn for months and months on end before they get to the store for sale. Including: test in ocean water for 10 days (satin cord, no wear seen at all!); toddler sucking on a kids bracelet for weeks on end (bracelet looked fine as was the child); pull tests on necklaces/chokers to ensure they will not come off even with a baby pulling on them for hours on end.

The most surprising discovery I have had over the course of the last 2 years of having Epic Stitching on Etsy is that there are so many men that want to wear basic, natural, not too flashy bracelets! They are some of my best repeat customers. So today I have product lines that work for men, women and children. And there are more ideas and fibers coming out all the time!

Giveaway info below. $25 gift card to store and free international shipping.

Aussie Curves - Picnic

I'm cheating ever so slightly today. I did a picnic post as part of our Perth Curvettes Summer Style Challenge, and I'm using the same shots. But, this dress is such a perfect picnic dress!!

I am currently obsessed with these dresses. I'm some how accumulated 7 in a very short period of time. They fit my 'punk cupckae' aesthetic perfectly. Plus who doesn't feel ultra feminine in a twirly skirt and a big petticoat?

Petticoat - Inspired Insanity

Things I Love Thursday

I had all good intentions to blog every day this week. Then I woke up today and realized it was Thursday, and I've done 1 post. Oh well!! I have 3 assignments due so I've been a busy little bee.

First off - how good is peanut butter toast. I'm eating some right now, and it's too good. I have to go make some more.

I haven't spent a lot of time on the internet this week, but I did come across 3 Hell Bunny (are you surprised?) cardigans that I NEED!

All via Tiger Milly
That's actually it this week. I know, how boring!! Oh well!! I'll be back with some more double take posts, as soon as the rain stops

What I Wore - Sunday Errands to Sunday Brunch

This was probably the hardest of the Double Takes for me. I would probably wear the same outfit for both of these outings. I would make a point to chose and outfit that was appropriate for both. But, seeing as this is a challenge, I had to think differently. When standing in front of my wardrobe, all my dresses says 'pick me, pick me' my eyes fell upon my robot dress, and I didn't think twice. I knew it was the one.

SUNDAY ERRANDS

I kept it simple with a crop cardi, and some almost flats! I actually wear this outfit quite a bit. It's so easy to wear, and always looks good!

Dress - City Chic
Cardigan - Target (really old)
Shoes - Kmart
Robot necklace - Lovisa (present)

SUNDAY BRUNCH

A quick shoe and jewelry change and I'm ready for brunch! I decided on my clogs, they're so comfortable!

Dress - City Chic
Shoes - Wittner
Necklace - Domino Dollhouse

So, that's my Sunday Errands to Sunday Brunch look. This dress is so versatile though, I can't think of many situations where it's not appropriate.
